Hey - self-produced CGI music video

Guy Ben Shetrit writes in with details of the music video he directed, animated and composed. The visuals look like nothing else. Some really nice lighting and cell shading.

"Sci-Fi Fantasy journey of a little girl with a special pet friend, a huge toad. Once the girl loses her pet, which drifts in the sky in a form of a balloon, she is going through different adventurous scenarios by chasing it. This is a full 3D animation music video for the song 'Hey' by Eatliz band."

“Hey” is the creation of a talented team, headed by the multi-talented Guy Ben-Shetrit. Ben-Shetrit is both the composer of the music and writer, director and lead animator on this music video. This position allowed for a unique merge between music and visual, which sum up to one dazzling vision.

The video, just as the music, are both built on complex beats that evolve and break in a very organic yet precise way. The video’s editing also compliments this style, cutting rapidly during fast action sequences, and letting the eye rest just enough before the next outburst of chaotic events. The transitions between different locations and time periods are blended sometimes through a special cut and sometimes through motion. These help carry the viewer’s eye into a whole new scene, while still maintaining a sense of continuity of mood and consistency from the previous one.

The story and art of this video bring together a fantasy world with realistic everyday motifs, some of which are quite unorthodox for today’s common animation world (– a little girl peeing in the street, or a sardine that leaps out of the sardine can as it opens, only to be cut in half and its blood smeared as lipstick.) The heroine of the story – a little girl with a giant toad as her pet and best friend goes through fast – paced adventures and conflicts. Once the action starts, the adrenaline is pumping and soon enough the ride goes out of control.

The music video utilizes 128 shots in 03:26 minutes, and although it is an independent production, it follows the same production principles used in today’s major CG studios.
