CBBC drama commissioner Jon East has ordered five new kids TV dramas... I-SPY is to be loosely based on the adult hit series Spooks. The 10x30 min series will be made by indie Kudos for screening early 2007. Joint managing director Stephen Garrett will exec produce.
Summerhill, a school drama written by New Tricks writer Alison Hume will be made by Tiger Aspect. Due for transmission in late 2007, the 2 x 60-minute drama will be produced by Billy Elliot co-producer Greg Brenman. East will direct.
Roman Mysteries is a 5 x 60-minute period drama based on the novels written by Olivia Hetreed, who scripted the feature film Girl With A Pearl Earring. Made by Suitable Viewing and produced by Martin Auty, East will exec produce. It'll be on screens in late 2007.
Desperados, a 10 x 30-minute comedy drama series about a wheelchair basketball team, will be made by in-house team CBBC Drama. Produced by Ewan Marshall it will be on screens this autumn.
Joing it in the autumn schedules this year will be Young Dracula, a comic take on the classic horror tale from the in-house team, executive produced by Josephine Ward.
