Alleged Sexual Assault on Australian Big Brother

Screen kissEndemol is embroiled in another Big Brother scandal after an alleged sexual assault took place in the Australian house, resulting in police questioning and calls from senior MPs for the show to be axed.

Producers unexpectedly removed two male contestants from the house on Saturday morning following a "serious incident" which took place at around 4am Australian time and was broadcast live on Network Ten's website.

Endemol has since refused to release details of what took place but the alleged assault is believed to have involved a 22-year-old female contestant who was temporarily released from the studio compound on Australia's Gold Coast to be interviewed by Queensland police. Police also reviewed the footage but said that because no formal complaint had been made a criminal investigation was unable to proceed due to insufficient evidence.

Endemol released a brief statement saying the contestants had been removed from the show because of a "breach of the rules". It has banned discussion of the incident on the Big Brother website and footage of the event will not screen on Network Ten.
