Oscar Shorts Tour US Screens

 Cinema Screens

This year's Oscar-nominated live-action and animated short films are touring cinemas across America, through a partnership between Magnolia Pictures and U.K.-based Shorts International.

The two companies have teamed up to bring the films to audiences before the 78th Annual Academy Awards on March 5.

Beginning 24th February, the films will be shown back-to-back at select theatres in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Berkeley, Calif., Detroit, Atlanta, Seattle and Denver, in weeklong runs. There will be limited runs in Austin, Portland, Ore., and Chicago, with further cities to be added in coming weeks.

The shorts will also screen this year on Magnolia's sister cable network HDNet, on DVD through Magnolia's Home Entertainment division and via other platforms including ShortsTV, available on mobile phones.

The deal developed after the two companies, pursuing the shorts separately, felt it might be more efficient to work together.

"Today's technology makes short films exactly the right thing for large audiences," Shorts International CEO Carter Pilcher said. "They're the feature films for today's generation."
