Liverpool – Film's Star Turn

 

Liverpool has secured its reputation as the Hollywood of the North West after new figures revealed filming in the city increased by 42% last year.Last year was a record-breaking period for the city's film and television industry with production levels the highest recorded.

 

More than 180 productions were shot with respected stars such as Winona Ryder and Patrick Stewart heading to Liverpool alongside up and coming actors. The trend is also expected to continue as film officers received 40% more production enquires than before.

Lynn Saunders, head of Liverpool's Film Office, said: "Liverpool is very film friendly. It has diverse locations, you can film period or contemporary, and there is a very talented and skilled workforce.

"We have got the UK's most experienced film office and it has an excellent reputation. We have got fantastic contacts and can deal with enquiries very quickly and efficiently. People view us as an extension of their crew."

The productions range from high budget feature films, to television dramas and documentaries.

One of the most high profile starred American actress Winona Ryder and Tom Conti and was shot on location in the city centre last August. Beyond Friendship follows the relationship between two men, one Jewish and the other Arab, as the state of Israel is being created.
