In Full: The British Independent Film Awards

BIFA Winners of the 9th British Independent Film Awards

29th November 2006

The winners of the British Independent Film Awards , organised by Raindance, were announced at the Hammersmith Palais on Wedenesday night, 29th November.

Raindance says:

The UK may not have Hollywood, but it does not need nor should it want it. Its film industry is booming even if it was not when BIFA was first established by Raindance in 1998. BIFA is extremely important to filmmakers on the domestic front, as it understands the value of ‘British' film being truly ‘British,' that American cinema often writes off as ‘too British,' as if this were a bad thing. There is an unfortunate desire to impress Hollywood that leaves the British film industry on the back burner, where it is not meant to be. British film stands alone and should have no desire to conform to the foreign standards. Having BIFA to reward British filmmakers for British films is a fantastic incentive for our young filmmakers to make more British films and make British films better.
