Asian Festival of First Films is Open For Submissions

 

Asian Festival of First Films, SingaporeAsian First Film Festival is an annual film and documentary festival, now in its second year, to celebrate excellence for first-time Producers, Directors, Cinematographers, Writers, Actors and Documentary makers from the Asian Diaspora.

 

The Festival Directorate invites films from first-time filmmakers of Asian origin in the following categories:

  • Best Film (Producer & Director)
  • Best Director
  • Best Producer
  • Best Cinematographer or Editor
  • Best Female Actor
  • Best Male Actor
  • Best Script/Screenplay
  • Best Documentary
  • Best Director of Documentary

 

The Asian Festival of 1st Films awards in several categories, including Best Documentary and Best Documentary Director. Films must be by first-time filmmakers of Asian origin; the full list of eligible countries is available on the festival website.

At the 2005 festival, an international jury including Andy Glynne (director -Documentary Film Group), Ang Soo Hyun (Producer - Korea), Mahesh Bhatt (Director - India) and Nonzee Nimibutr (Director - Thailand) selected the final awardees from countries including Bangladesh, Canada, China, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Israel, Taiwan, UK, USA, Vietnam.

Many of the award-winning films have since gone onto achieve success at other international film festivals, including Sundance, Berlin and Rotterdam.

Documentaries may be submitted on any format and must have been completed in the year preceeding the submission deadline. All films must be submitted in their original language with English subtitles and have the full requirement of accompanying documentation.

The festival runs in Singapore from the 30th November - 7th December 2006 and the deadline for entries is 31st August 2006. For full details, see the festival website.
