Africa in Motion: Edinburgh African Film Festival

The programme for Africa in Motion (AiM), the first Edinburgh African film festival, has just been launched.

AiM is taking place from 20-29 October 2006 at Filmhouse cinema.

The inaugural AiM festival presents a "best of" selection of more than two dozen African films, including some of the most significant African classics; a number of "lost African classics" - very rare and hard-to-find early African films of which some have never been screened in the UK before; as well as a selection of groundbreaking contemporary films. Our programme covers a variety of genres and spans 6 decades of filmmaking on the African continent.

Most screenings will be introduced by high-profile theorists and critics of African film. The festival also includes an excellent complementary programme of free talks and discussions, offering opportunities to the general public, school children and students to engage in discussions on African cinema. Throughout the festival African musicians, poets and artists will perform and exhibit their work in the Filmhouse café.

Tickets for screenings are available from the Filmhouse box office, 88 Lothian Road, Edinburgh EH3 9BZ, or call the box office on: 0131 228 2688. Our ticket deal enables you to see any three programmes in the festival for £12/£7.50 concessions, or all sixteen for £48/£32 concessions. All complementary events and entertainment are free of charge.
