Documentary film at the East European Forum

 The sixth East European Forum begins Wenesday October 25 and for the first time includes a meeting of East European documakers, comissioning editors, and other doc professionals. Running until October 29 in Jihlava, Czech Republic, the event mixes panels, pitching fora, networking and a market.

 

EAST EUROPEAN FORUM 2006

East European Forum has been for six years one of the two focal points of the industry section at the Jihlava IDFF. This year the Forum will host more than 70 documentary professionals from all over Europe. It is the first event that gives East European documentary filmmakers the opportunity to meet Europe's leading commissioning editors. At the Forum, directors and independent producers pitch their documentary projects. Since its establishment, the Forum has become a prestigious meeting place for film professionals and, since 2001, it has hosted approx. 312 East European filmmakers and producers, 40 TV representatives and tens of international distributors, buyers and festival programmers.

PANEL DISCUSSION "OLD-NEW NEIGHBOURS"

Topic: creative trends, production conditions, legislation and outstanding films in the middle of Europe
As part of the accompanying programme of the East European Forum , the Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) holds an overview panel discussion Old-New Neighbours that will address important issues with regard to five Central European countries: What documentary trends have emerged in your country over the last ten years? In what ways have the production conditions changed? What role do local broadcasters play in the support of documentary cinema? How many documentary films are made as international co-productions? How does the film policy work in your country? What major films have been made in your country in the last ten years?  Audiences will be discussing these questions together with directors and representatives of leading film institutions from the following countries of Central Europe: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Austria.


CASE STUDY of a successful project of the East European Forum 2004
Date, time: Saturday, October 28, 6pm
Venue: Tolstého str. 15, Jihlava, Czech Republic
On Saturday, October 28,  there will be a public screening of the documentary film ART OF SELLING by Estonian documentary filmmakers Jaak Kilmi and Andres Maimik; after the screening, the filmmakers will share their experience with the process of co-production with the Finnish TV network YLE.

EAST SILVER DOCMARKET

The biggest DocMarket of East European documentary films is a unique that will be a part of the prestigious 10th International Documentary Film Festival Jihlava and will be open from Wednesday October, 25th to Sunday October, 29th 2006 between 9 am – 10 pm. Silver videolibrary will offer over 1000 documentary films of all themes and styles from this and last year’s editions of the project. East Silver is a collective project of Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival and the Institute of Documentary Film Prague. Together with the East European Pitching Forum, which provides a meeting point for East European filmmakers and the representatives of West European TV networks, East Silver is a unique connection spot of all documentary film professionals from West and East Europe.EAST SILVER will offer a catalogue with a complete list of the  films and synopses in English, contacts, and video / DVD rental list.
