Documentaries on Indian Independence Eligible For Award

Winning Proposals Will Screen in India and UK

In celebration of India's 60th anniversary of independence, a competition will honour the best three-minute documentaries on Indian independence. Broadcast journalists in India have until August 21 to submit their proposals. The awards ceremony will coincide with the Open Frame Reality Film Festival and Documentary Business Skills Forum to be held in Delhi in September.

The UK-based Documentary Filmmakers Group (DFG Films) is organizing the competition, in cooperation with The Public Service Broadcasting Trust. The event is sponsored by Channel 4 UK, The British Council and the CBA-DFID Broadcast Media Scheme.

The directors of the best 16 proposals will be invited to Delhi for the festival and forum, where they will attend a formal pitching and proposal writing workshop. The directors will pitch their proposals directly to a panel of commissioners from DFJ and Channel 4 UK. The panel will award support for production to eight directors with the most successful proposals.

All eight films will be broadcast on Indian television; Channel 4 will broadcast the top four in early 2007 as part of the Independence Day activities.
