PACT vs Equity - The 1% Duel

The producers body PACT has responded to the start of the Equity strike by advising its members on Wednesday called for its members to stick to its guns with regard to ancillary payments to actors.

Equity's threatened strike over the 3% it expects from net profits began on Wednesday after PACT would not break the 2% glass ceiling for video and DVD sales for actors.

PACT, in a statement from a spokesperson, insisted, "We cannot, however, treat any acceptance of these Equity terms by producers as precedential."

The producers organisation are concerned that the 3% Equity ask for its members for especially successful films would mean big budget studio productions aiming to shoot in the UK would look elsewhere.

Equity's retort, after happily negotiating deals with individual productions across the budget range, from Bond 20 to Penny Woolcock's FilmFour Lab flick, The Principles of Lust, suggested otherwise, "MGM told us it would be happy for that (3%) to be the industry standard."
