Lola Lagging in London
The trades all reported the worrying news that staff at Lolafilms UK could face the axe if sales at London Screenings and MIFED aren't deemed satisfactory.
A fortnight back, Lola chief Andres Vicente Gomez warned off total redundancies for their London based sales and production arm by the new year but Gomez subsequently denied this when quizzed by Variety.

Head of sales Nicole Mackay has quit in the light of this precaution, the departure of three execs from the Spanish HQ and with production head Nadine Luque now on maternity leave, morale can't be high.

Such English language pics as The Girl from Rio and Gaudi Afternoon, despite selling well internationally, have not been screened theatrically so there is pressure from Lola's telecomms giant shareholder, Telefonica Media to perform at both markets - the first of which begins Monday.
