intro

The hilarious Steve Coogan vehicle The Parole Officer, on general release at cinemas across the UK, is being hailed as the latest success for Liverpool's flourishing film industry.

Partly shot in Liverpool the Coogan starrer, which critics are tipping to succeed at the UK box office, further enhances the city’s growing reputation as the number one location for movie-making.

Cult director Alex Cox is currently shooting Revengers Tragedy, with a fine British cast including Sophie Dahl, Eddie Izzard and Derek Jacobi. A remake of TV period drama The Forsyte Saga – featuring Wendy Craig and Rupert Graves - is also underway in the city.

Councillor Frank Doran, Executive Board member for Leisure and Culture, said, "This is another feather in the cap for Liverpool as we bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2008. Audiences across the country will see what a stunning city Liverpool is, and this can only be good news for the local economy and tourism."
