intro
Turner Prize winner and enfant terrible of the British art scene, Tracey Emin is planning to shoot her feature debut about her home town, the South Eastern coastal town of Margate in Kent.

The Kent coastal town of Margate, the setting for Pawel Pawlikowski's 'Stonehaven' in his award winning feature The Last Resort, is preparing to receive it's most celebrated daughter, Tracey Emin.
The town which, in season is a bustling coastal resort lined with amusement arcades and out season is a holding area for asylum seekers, will be the focus for the Turner Prize winner's latest piece, a full length feature film.

The Independent covered the story over the weekend that revealed the controversial artist harbours mixed views of her hometown. At once stating, "You don't lose your virginity there; you get broken into" she seeming thrilled with the project with, "It will make Margate look like an incredibly great place to be, because it is a great place. It isn't set in the 70s, but I want it to have a very 70s feel about it; not with the costumes but with the music. I want all the extras to come from Margate and I want it to give the whole area a big boost."

With a working title Top Spot, Emin is in talks with potential investors about raising the £600,000 necessary to realise her dream but the town's inhabitants are less enthusiastic. Mike Pearce, editor of the Isle of Thanet Gazette, told paper. "Heaven help us! Who knows what she'll do? The woman is capable of anything. It could be the best publicity coup the town has ever had. Or it could be... It doesn't bear thinking about."
