Overview

Southern Arts works to support individual filmmakers in the region with small production grants for short films and by running two broadcast schemes with Meridian and Carlton. Support is also provided through training, education and exhibition schemes.

Grants of between £100 and £7,500 are available to support film and video makers in the creative and professional development of their work. Funding can be applied to a wide range of activities such as research, marketing, small equipment grants and supporting attendance at events.

David Altshul Award

The David Altshul Film Award offers £1,000 in prize money and valuable contacts in the film and television industry for the best new short film made in the region. The awards panel look for fresh and exciting work that shows originality, visual flair and technical skill. Films should be no longer than 30 minutes in duration but can be originated on any film or video format and can be of any genre including drama, documentary, animation or experimental work.
