Daddy's Girl on the Way

THE Edinburgh film-maker who scooped a prize at Cannes has been keeping hospital vigil with his partner, who is expecting their first child. Irvine Allan, 44, declined an invitation to the festival because partner Annie George was due to give birth.

His short film, Daddy’s Girl - in which Ms George has a cameo role - was awarded the Prix de Jury for fiction and he is tipped for Hollywood success.

Before heading for the hospital he said: "We haven’t asked whether it is a boy or a girl, but all the omens point towards a daddy’s girl. It would be the icing on the cake for us, but I really don’t mind as long as the baby is healthy." Despite his success, Allan has been forced to sign on the dole.
