LIFF 15 Warming Up

That vibrant northern city of Leeds is warming up to host its 15th International Film festival this year, planned for 27th September to 12th October.

This year’s festival will be the last for the Odeon Cinema on Headrow, which sadly, goes dark after the festival in mid-October. However, Leeds cinema-goers will be even better served soon, with the new 13-screen Ster Century Complex is set to open in the Headrow as part of the Light Development soon after.

They don’t do things by half in Yorkshire, so within a year that is being followed up by a second new cinema opening, with a new arts cinema from City Screen, due to open off Millenium Square late in 2002.

This is the time of year when the Festival starts recruiting volunteers and temporary part-time paid staff, for positions such as Marketing Coordinator and Assistant, Technical Manager and Operators, Venue Coordinators, and Industry Coordinator.

They will also be looking for an organiser for the Film Festival Fringe, which runs events with bars and clubs. Volunteers get involved in venue and event assistance, promotion, audience research and guest hospitality.

This sounds like a great opportunity for getting involved with a festival that has a growing international reputation and is clearly doing great things for film in a great northern city. Maybe you will get the chance to see some good films too!

Further information from Film Festival Officer Debbie Maturi who has an information sheet for interested people. Contact her at debbie.maturi@leeds.gov.uk

Debbie has replaced Charlotte Fegusson, who, after two great years working at LIFF has become the city’s Leisure Services Arts Development Officer.

Ferris Bueller Leeds-Bound On Day Off

The enterprising supporters of the Leeds International Film Festival have arranged another of their monthly Hipster Doofus film and music nights, not to be missed by cool filmmakers in the greatest of England’s shires.

The night promises an innovative and compelling mix of sound and vision set in the Hi-Fi, one of the best clubs in Leeds. Hipster Doofus combines the screening of a full-length feature film with all-night visuals and a large and wide selection of music from the mid to late 20th century and beyond!

The feature planned for HD on Tuesday 8th of May is the brilliantly funny Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Doors open 9.00, film rolls from 9.30 and the night wraps at 2.00 £4 max. It’s a steal.

Further inf from monkeytwohands@hotmail.com who is also looking for 8mm & 16mm film.
