Lee Lights, Student Cameras, Action!

Just like a real film set. That’s what’s promised at Scottish Students on Screen at Dundee Contemporary Arts on 23-24 March. The first thing a visitor to the two-day festival of the best in student film work will see, is a Lee Lighting van at the entrance powering the lights to illuminate the large entrance hall, lit as it would be if a film shoot was actually taking place there.

Lee Lighting is Scotland’s major lighting company working across the board on films, television, commercials, corporates, in fact anything to do with the moving image. They are one of the main sponsors of Scottish Students on Screen and will have some of their latest equipment at the event to allow students to see and handle the new and innovative equipment.

George Thomson, Lee Lighting’s Scottish Operations Director is delighted to lend his support to Scottish Students on Screen. "As a company, which works in the industry, I feel it is very important for us to get involved with students.   They are after all the future of the media industry and we want to give them the chance to see the newest and best equipment and allow them to question our technicians and get some real hands-on experience. We have always supported the emerging talent through the Scottish short film schemes like Tartan Shorts and New Found Land, and Scottish Students on Screen is an occasion to meet even younger filmmakers. Education is vital in this industry and we are very keen to support any initiative that encourages training. This is the reason that Lee’s in association with Panavision Scotland have presented the main award for Cinematography, because we want to encourage these creative youngsters in their careers."

The winner of the Lee Lighting Panavision Scotland Award for Cinematography will not only receive a magnificent trophy but also gets the chance to be trained on and to use, state-of-the-art camera and lighting equipment on their next film shoot.
