Scottish Students On Screen Streaming

Metro Digital, one of the main sponsors of the annual Scottish Students on Screen competition, has teamed up with Scottish Screen in an exciting development for this year's event, opening up the competition entries to a wider audience and allowing more people to see these films, which are unlikely to go on general release.

Using Metro Digital's interactive new media expertise, all twenty-five films shortlisted for competition can be viewed on the web, allowing visitors to the site the chance to watch and vote for their favourite entry. The film receiving the most votes will win the Metro Digital Audience Award.

Metro Digital are providing the electronic wizardry and the content of the site is being designed and organised by the Lanarkshire Video Arts Centre. The dedicated site was be launched at Metro Digital's stand at The Production show in London on Wednesday 14 March and the films will remain on screen until Friday 30 March to allow lots of time for people to watch and make their choice.  The Metro Digital Audience Award will be presented at a special ceremony at Scottish Screen at the beginning of April as well as being announced on the web.

This year's Scottish Students on Screen takes place at Dundee Contemporary Arts on Friday and Saturday 23 -24 March. The event features screenings of student and schoolchildren's work, career sessions, seminars, hands-on demos and culminates in the awards presentation on Saturday evening.  Anyone unable to attend the event can watch a special webcast programme which will be broadcast live on the site from DCA.
Stevie Greer of Metro Digital is excited about the challenge; "This is the first time we have attempted an interactive voting system and it really looks great.  The site is brilliant but it's also easy to use. This is definitely the way to see films like these which are not going on general release. The students' work is very interesting and diverse, there really is something for everyone. I look forward to seeing how the voting goes and meeting the winner. Metro Digital is delighted to be a sponsor of Scottish Students on Screen."
