Call for Entries: DepicT! ‘07 90 Second Film Competition

DepicT! logo

DepicT! short film competition, part of the renowned Encounters International Short Film Festival (Wed 21 – Sun 25 Nov ‘07), once again challenges filmmakers from across the globe to come up with a compelling, imaginative idea and distil it into 90 seconds of cinematic originality.

Not only will shortlisted films gain priceless industry exposure at Encounters, “The UK’s most important short film festival” (The Guardian), but they’ll be in the running for the top cash prize of £2000.

As in previous years, the judges (who last year included Slinky filmmaker Chris Shephard and Aardman Animations founding director David Sproxton) are on the lookout for well-crafted, imaginative and engaging mini-masterpieces.  We encourage films from all over the world and are open to all production techniques; last year we received a record number of entries from 25 countries, ranging from animation and experimental to documentary and drama.

It couldn’t be easier to submit your films – simply visit the new DepicT! website at www.depict.org to upload them via our online entry system.

New this year: the DepicT! ‘07 shortlisted entries will be made available for theatrical screenings in cinemas across the UK through the Digital Screen Network in ‘08*, thanks to a new partnership with Arts Alliance Media.  All shortlisted filmmakers will also receive an Encounters Network Delegate pass with all the trimmings, as well as a free place in the popular Encounters Film School.

Leigh Hodgkinson, winner DepicT! ‘06 Animation and Audience Awards with Flighty:

Being included in the DepicT! shortlist was a brilliant experience. It is great that the DepicT! competition exists, as it gives these bite-sized creations a reputable home and gives the films exposure. I love the way DepicT! also serves as a platform that actively encourages comments online (good and bad) - as anything that allows an exchange of ideas about film and animation can only ever be a good thing.

Ruth Meehan, winner DepicT! '06 Live Action Award with And the Red Man Went Green:

The whole experience of DepicT! '06 has been fantastic from beginning to end. It was great to participate online with such an interesting and diverse range of short films. I had a blast at Encounters meeting both the filmmakers and the judges.
