In addition to financial resources the fund aims to provide professional support and advice, create partnerships with other regional talent and to promote co-financing and distribution opportunities for Fund backed projects. Recent credits for Fund backed films include Nasty Neighbours, released theatrically through Redbus, and Gabriel & Me. The Fund can support features, shorts, television drama, animation, documentaries, experimental, artist film and video work and multimedia productions. Work must directly benefit the region by employing local talent and facilities wherever possible, be realised with a high degree of professionalism, have cultural significance and in some way be innovative or original in form and content. Funding and Support Development Support The Fund can support the research and development of Single Projects (up to £50,000), Feature Films (up to £10,000) and Companies with a development slate (up to £39,000). Shorts do not qualify for development support. In addition to financial support professional assistance may be given if appropriate such as a script editor. In the case of Features priority will be given to production companies with a Northern based writer. Projects without a producer are ineligible, and while a project led by an inexperienced producer who has assembled a strong package will be considered, the awards will normally be offered to companies with a track record in producing features. The ability to match the Fund contribution must be demonstrated. A solid track record is a requirement of Company support, in addition to a strategic vision and a strong slate of projects to bring to the scheme. Emphasis is given to companies who have consistently brought in additional financing for development and production, or new companies able to demonstrate the potential to lever in these funds. Subject to achieving certain criteria companies are eligible to apply for additional support, although the cumulative grant over three years is unlikely to exceed £65,000. Production Support The Fund directly supports the production of projects in the region, covering Non-Feature Projects (up to £30,000), Feature Films for theatrical release (up to £50,000) and Completion Funding (up to £25,000). Producers from outside the region may apply if the Fund can be shown a production spend of six times any award within the region. Professional Development Awards Discretionary awards can be made by the Fund to assist in up to half the cost of the attendance of festivals, markets and training events, up to a maximum of £1,500. Broadcaster Partnership Schemes In addition to these funds the Northern Production Fund works with broadcasters to develop initiatives to support development and production, particularly in the area of new talent and short film production. |
