Overview

The Moving Image Development Agency manage and distribute several funds providing direct production resources and general business support for producers in the North West region and particularly in the Merseyside area. The objective since MIDA's foundation is to build a sustainable film and television industry in the region. The main funds come from the European Regional Development Fund and Liverpool City Council, but additional resources a brought in through the development of collaborations with Channel 4, BBC schemes such as 10x10, Granada Television and North West Arts.

Funding and Support

Merseyside Film Investment Fund

With the purpose of promoting the Merseyside film and television sector, the Fund invested directly in local productions including ITV's Liverpool 1, the BBC's The Lakes and independent features such as Going Off Big Time. Funds were sourced through Objective 1 of the ERDF, and although all resources have been committed, funding for a similar scheme is being secured.

North West Film & Video Production Fund

MIDA manage Objective 2 funds from the North West Arts Board for the production and completion of short drama, animation and documentary productions or low budget features. Eight awards are made each year in two funding rounds.

Merseyside Producers' Development Initiative

The Initiative supports the development and integration of Merseyside based producers and production companies into the national and international film and television market. Drama and documentary productions for Granada and Channel 4 have been supported and the Merseybites scheme partnered with the BBC to support the development of eight feature film scripts. Seminars and short courses have also been supported through the scheme.

North West Producers' Development Scheme

Essential support for new and established film making talent in the North West Arts Board region is provided, including a bi-monthly newsletter, short courses and seminars and production surgeries with MIDA.

Sustainable Producers

MIDA manage funding from Merseyside ACME to provide business support for Merseyside production companies, such as developing marketing and business plans.
