Amazon unboxes TV and Film with downloads to own service Print E-mail
Contributed by Nicol Wistreich Friday, 08 September 2006

Amazon has unveiled its download service, Amazon Unbox, which offers thousands of TV programmes and films. Content appears from 30 major studios and production companies - including the BBC - with the notable exception of  Disney, whose largest shareholder is Apple boss, Steve Jobs. Apple is expected to launch a similar service next week.

TV shows will cost a $1.99 cents an episode. Most movies will cost between $7.99 and $14.99 with rentals at $3.99. V for Vendetta, staring Natalie Portman, John Hurt and Stepehn Rea was leading on the front page of the site when I visited, and is on offer for $13.97.

Few details were available as to how to get your work uploaded on the system to start selling, but the homepage does state "Amazon Unbox is committed to having the best selection of video downloads on the planet, so if you own the rights to distribute your original content for download, please email us". The address given is dv-original-content-inquiry@amazon.com
