European Film Funding Opportunities to be Explored

Haugesund, NorwayTen UK producers are headed for the first ever Nordic Co-production Forum, to be held in Haugesund from 21-22 August as part of the Norwegian International Film Festival. Chosen from almost 50 applications, the producers will meet potential Nordic co-producers to look at potential sources of funding. Co production could be with any of the  Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden.

The first co- productions could be expected to get underway within the next 12 months

TEN WITH TEN

The ten UK producers and their projects are

  • Anne Beresford, MJW Productions - Gal Planet
  • Peter Broughan, The Flying Scotsman - Renegade
  • Rebecca Knapp, The Content Providers - Momentum
  • Clive Myer, Eclectic Films - The Mire Archive
  • Stuart Pollock, Saltire Entertainment - Lords of Chaos
  • Nabil Shaban, Sirius Pictures - Ivarr The Boneless
  • Tom Swanston, WYSIWYG - Christmas Story/ Joulutarina
  • Jenny Walker, Frames of Reference Films - Blood Debt
  • Alison World, Friend Films - Doll's Houses, a film trilogy

This inaugural Nordic Forum will focus on the UK as a co-production partner for feature films and feature-length documentaries within the Nordic countries.

Forum panels will deal with co-production within the Nordic region as well as with the rest of Europe.

GREAT DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY

Adrian Wootton, CEO of Film London, who will lead the UK delegation said: "This is a great opportunity to develop partnerships with the Nordic countries and to establish London as the leading gateway for filming in Europe."

The Co-production Forum is part of the annual film market New Nordic Films which has been running since 1995 and is seen as something of  an  exclusive industry event.

A previous delegation to the Forum led by Scottish Screen proved mutually advantageous, with a number of Nordic filmmakers setting up co-productions in Scotland and strong professional links being created.
