Treasure Trove of Stolen-To-Order Film Kit Recovered

Watch Out! There are Film Kit Thieves About!More than £100,000 worth of stolen film and camera equipment has been recovered by police following a series of dawn raids across London. The raids were carried out as part or Operation Edson, launched in the spring following the theft of film and camera equipment worth around £2 million.

Following the raids, police have recovered items of specialised camera equipment, computers and plasma screen televisions stolen from film makers, broadcasters, post production houses and independent producers.

As part of Operation Edson, officers also arrested 15 men for offences including conspiracy to burgle and theft. The men were taken to police stations in central and north London where they are being detained in custody.

Police have worked closely with UK Post, the post-production and special effects sector trade organization, throughout the operation, to help prevent further offences and help with recovering stolen property.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Weinberg of the Metropolitan Police, senior investigating officer on the case said: "For many months we have been investigating an organised group of criminals suspected of carrying out numerous burglaries and thefts of very specialised equipment, which we believe was stolen to order."
