Red Road Contender For Cannes Camera D’Or – DEREK MALCOLM Print E-mail

Red Road bombshell bursts in CannesLondon Evening Standard film critic Derek Malcolm says "A small bomb exploded at Cannes over the weekend. It was made in Glasgow and hurt no one." But it did apparently impress a number of film critics. He says Andrea Arnold's feature debut Red Road could be a "serious candidate for the Festival's Camera D'Or for best first film." Red Road, he said, "compared very favourably with many of the films by directors with international reputations."

Malcolm goes on to say of Red Road; "The film isn't flawless. It has a flat patch in the middle and an ending that seems too pat for comfort. But Arnold's atmospheric sense of a povertystricken city and her precise control of her material are admirable, and the performances of Dickie and Curran are outstanding."
