The Angel Film Festival 2006The Angel Film Festival was thought up one lazy Sunday in February by three film lovers, to fulfil three aims often neglected in the film festival world. We want to give time and attention to the pleasurable pursuit of creating and enjoying film; to give unknown, but talented film-makers an opportunity to showcase their work and to create a relaxed and informal viewing place where art and beer meet.

The Angel Film Festival  will do this by taking film into the most relaxed arena possible – the good old British pub. The Festival will show films across four Sundays in July and August, at a variety of bars, cafes and pubs across Central London. This relaxed atmosphere is the perfect setting to encourage both filmmakers and the general public to get involved in discussing and creating imaginative and successful work. This kind of collaboration is essential to helping the UK revitalise the roots of its film industry.

All showings will be free and we’ll be encouraging both those involved with making films and people off the street to come along and watch and discuss the films we’ll be showing. The Festival has already received over 50 entries in the 2 weeks that submission has been open, through web promotion and word of mouth alone. These entries include winners of regional film festivals, Cannes entrants and films funded by national television and film companies, such as the Canadian Broadcasting Company.

The Festival is supported by Production Base and Casting Call Pro, two companies closely involved in film-making in front of and behind the camera. We’re currently in the process of securing further sponsorship from companies local to Angel and Clerkenwell and national organisations with an understanding of our ethos. All details of our sponsors can be found on our website, as can details for anyone interested in supporting this venture.

The Festival is currently a work in progress, very much in the spirit of informality that we are keen to foster in film-makers. Details of how to enter a film in our festival and how to support us can be found at our website www.angelfilmfestival.org. Confirmation of showing times and venues will be released on the website, along with the details of the films that will be viewed.

The Angel Film Festival is a unique opportunity for film-makers and film-watchers to meet, in an environment designed to provoke discussion and fun. The three co-creators are Chris Timms, a website entrepreneur with a background in running UK and LA film websites, Rick Dickerson, a writer and director of a number of critically acclaimed plays and Terrie McCann, a charity consultant with some experience of the stage.
