Africa
in Motion will be taking place from 25 October - 4 November 2007 at the
Edinburgh Filmhouse. Now in its second year, the festival programme
will include at least 30 outstanding, thought-provoking and innovative
African films from all over the continent, from pioneering African
filmmakers to young and emerging contemporary directors.

Africa
in Motion will be taking place from 25 October - 4 November 2007 at the
Edinburgh Filmhouse. Now in its second year, the festival programme
will include at least 30 outstanding, thought-provoking and innovative
African films from all over the continent, from pioneering African
filmmakers to young and emerging contemporary directors.
A
tribute to the late Senegalese director Ousmane Sembene – one of the
most important pioneers of African cinema – is planned, as well as a
spotlight on Ghana to celebrate 50 years of independence from Britain.
A number of film screenings will commemorate the Bicentenary of the
Abolition of the British Slave Trade and there will be a focus on
female African directors, past and present.
We are delighted to
have a number of African filmmakers in attendance, and screenings will
be enhanced by formal discussions, an academic symposium, master
classes and educational events for schools. Edinburgh Filmhouse will be
transformed into a hub to celebrate African culture, with an arts
exhibition, music performances, and a DVD and book stall.

AiM Opening Night Concert: Benny Tetteh-Lartey & the Afro-Scot Beat
To
celebrate the launch of this year's AiM film festival, award-winning
Scottish/Ghanaian musician Benny Tetteh-Lartey and his band will dazzle
audiences with their unique brand of Afro-Scot music, as he plays it up
for the 50th anniversary of independence for Ghana, his late father's
homeland. The Edinburgh born musician will be showcasing the
distinctive live sound of his self-made musical instrument, the
'combuitar', only the third on the planet. A clever combination of the
combolin (first created by the late Roy Williamson) and his own adapted
8-string acoustic guitar.
