Liverpool Film on World Tour Print E-mail
Written by James MacGregor Wednesday, 21 March 2007

Liverpool A LIVERPOOL production is on a world tour promoting the city and getting a phenomenal response at a trio of high-profile film festivals.

Under the Mud was written by Liverpool teenagers from the Speke/Garston area and follows the story of a dysfunctional family whose youngest daughter is taking her First Holy Communion.  The film has recently screened with great success at the Victoria Film Festival in Canada - where the reviews simply stated WOW! It has also just been in Colorado's Durango film festival and was the only British production accepted by organisers.  In April the film goes on to California having won its place over hundreds of entrants to be accepted by the prestigious Sonoma Valley Film Festival near San Francisco.

Liverpool's Big ScreenDirector Solon Papadopoulos said: "At Durango, we did questions and answers, film panels and two screenings, meeting fellow film makers and establishing relationships for the next and future projects."  Fellow Under the Mud producer, Roy Boulter added: "There's no replacing that ‘on the ground presence' whenever the film gets selected for a festival."

The film is currently showing on Liverpool's BBC Big Screen and recently premiered at the Royal Philharmonic Hall to an excited audience of 1,500 people.  Now the producer pair from Hurricane films is hoping to get a distribution deal and find a sponsor to take the young writers to California.

Liverpool City Council Leader, Cllr Warren Bradley, said: "The local support behind this film has been fantastic and the reception at festivals is a testament to what a captivating story it tells."
