Open Video Conference live stream
Netribution's here in NYC at the first Open Video Conference, a major meet up of the tech folk, creatives and thinkers who are defining the current and future use of video online - featuring a fair few of the people who featured in the last funding book. As the executive director of Mozilla (aka Firefox) said as we walked to the bar after the first event - he's been waiting 15 years for this conference, and I feel the same (well at least ten years since netribution first wondered into the wilderness).
Why is open video so important? Just look at the events in Iran right now and question if the distribution of video (not to mention rss, emails and blogs) had been controlled by the state or a single company, if so much information about the attacks on protesters would have emerged? As Cory Doctorow argues more succinctly than I've ever managed to, is it wise to invest all our future media and content with one or two companies? Will artists benefit the most from that? We'll be tweeting as well as the conference continues - you can also follow us on our new feed: twitter.com/netribution.
