Extraordinary Rendition Interrogation Chamber Found in Dalston Basement Print E-mail
Written by James MacGregor Monday, 26 June 2006

Planes used in rendition flights carry few markingsAn interrogation chamber has been discovered below ground in Dalston, where people suspected of involvement in terrorism are to be held and questioned prior to rendition abroad in secret flights. Not a real scenario as far as we know, but real enough for the makers of a micro-budget feature film Rendition, filming now in London.

Interrogation on film as seen in the movie Equilibrium

The premise of the film is that of a man snatched from the streets of his home-city and transported to an unknown destination. Held in a tiny cell with no access to legal representation, he is cut off from the outside world. Advanced interrogation techniques are used to break him down. His life deconstructed with such manipulation that even he begins to question his innocence. Transported again, in a small jet marked only N379P to the searing heat of an unspecified locale where interrogation is quickly replaced by sophisticated torture. No reason is offered for his detention and no timetable is set for his release. The man has fallen out of the world and only questions remain.

According to the film's producer, Andy Noble, the cast have been helping put the film together in improvised rehearsals for many weeks, following a 25-step structure.

The film is being shot on Sony's Z1 HDV camera and in post production it will be transferred to D5 HD for screening purposes.

Rendition having featured so heavily in recent news has helped the film a great deal in pre-production, Noble says. "It's also helped us with signing people up to the production as we've gone through the last few stages of prep."

Not least the cast, who include Andy Serkis (Kong, Lord of the Rings as the lead interrogator and Omar Berdouni (United 93, The Hamburg Cell) in the lead role of Zaafir.

Progress of filming can be followed on the Rendition blog.
