Trust Film Sales of Denmark have taken on Red Road for international distributionThe low-budget Scots movie that scooped a prestigious award at Cannes last week is set to be seen by film fans all over the world after it was bought up by a raft of international distributors at the French festival. Red Road, made by the Glasgow production company, Sigma Films, won the Jury Prize at Cannes last Sunday. It was also nominated for the festival's top award, the Palme D'Or.

Andrea Arnold's Oscar success with her short film "Wasp" will fuel screenings of her Cannes acclaimed debut feature Red RoadThe £1.2 million film is due to be released in the UK in late October but, following its Cannes success, it will now also be shown in the US, South America, most of Europe and the Middle East. Set against the backdrop of a high-rise housing scheme in Glasgow, Red Road is a tale of revenge centred around a CCTV operator (played by former Tinsel Town actress Kate Dickie) who tries to track down a man from her past whom she believes she has spotted on camera.

The film, which also stars Sweet Sixteen's Martin Compston, and Tony Curran, from BBC drama This Life, was partially funded by a Scottish Screen National Lottery investment. Red Road was directed by Andrea Arnold, who last year won an Oscar for her short film Wasp. She also produced a short, Milk, which took the prestigious Golden Bear award at last year's Berlin Film Festival. Red Road marks Arnold's first foray into feature films.
