The selection unveiled today has a distinctly European flavour with no fewer than 11 European films in competition announced so far. British director Andrea Arnold whose short film Wasp was an Academy Award Winner, is the only first time feature director to be featured in competition with Glasgow-set Red Road.

BBC1's Dickens series Bleak House continues on its awards success run picking up eight BAFTA Craft nominations. The drama series received nominations for costume design, editing (fiction/entertainment), make-up and hair design, photography and lighting (fiction/entertainment), production design, sound (fiction/entertainment) and director.

BBC show Bleak House has won three TV critic awards. The adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel was named Best Drama Series at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards. Charles Dance won Best Actor as evil lawyer Mr Tulkinghorn and Gillian Anderson took Best Actress for Lady Dedlock.

A new festival aimed at screening films in the most relaxed setting possible - the British pub - is opening its doors for submissions. And films are already rolling in, with more than 50 entries so far.
